Palestinian terror groups in Gaza fire Rockets into Israel
As the week long Passover Holiday came to a close, Israelis in Southern Israel had to welcome rocket attacks from its Palestinian neighbors in Gaza. After 10 rockets exploded in the southern region near the city of Sderot, the Israeli Defense Force sent 2 attack helicopters to Gaza in order to identify the source of the rocket fire. These choppers in turn laid fire on past terror sites as warning shots. Later on that Monday, the Israeli Air Force carried out targeted airstrikes in Khan Younis, Nasirat, and Deir al-Balah.
You must be thinking, so what’s the big news? Palestinian militants in Gaza are constantly firing rockets at southern Israel, why is this time any different than the others? In fact it’s not. The only problem that continues to repeat on the topic of Gaza rocket attacks is the Medias consistent denial to broadcast and shed light to these events. Barely any attention or coverage on the issues ever takes solid air time or news print. However, as advocates, this event will soon carry on by Anti-Israel groups as an un-justified overly-aggressive attack by Israel on Gaza.
The Anti-Israel movement will try to label the IDF’s defense and security measures as unfair to the attacks of the Palestinians, as they always do when Gaza escalates its terror attacks. This may come as a shock to many of you as you may be thinking that even when they attack first, even on a Jewish holiday, and we respond with a stronger jab aimed solely on ending the attacks rather than starting them, they still have the chutzpa to respond with claims of unfair aggressiveness.
Our response on campus has to be a strong and firm one. Advocate for the continued coverage of Sderot and Southern Israel in the media and by Pro-Israel groups to show the terror that comes out of Gaza. 108 rockets have been fired in 2014 and no one would know it. Also, stand strong on the issue of force as a measure of security. Don’t hit me and expect me to hit back just as hard, I will hit back harder so that you stop hitting me. Too many times do Pro-Israel groups find themselves on the defense of unfair attacks by the Anti-Israel groups’ claims to single Israel out as the aggressor. Now, it’s our turn to go on the attack. It’s not always the recommended advocating technique but in situations like this one, it’s the most effective and strongest measure. Don’t be shy and let your friends know about the realities of rocket fire from Gaza and the bombings of Sderot.
