MK pushes for price tag attacks to be reclassified as terrorist actions

Public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch and Justice Minister Tzipi Livni are leading a charge to reclassify price tag attacks as terrorist actions. Price tag attacks are hate crimes committed against Arabs in Israel and the West Bank. They generally involve vandalism and graffiti, but some price tag attacks have included slashing tires and Molotov cocktails. Politics aside, these attacks are indefensible and only cause problems between Jews and Arabs, regardless of how radical the Jews committing the attacks are. Reclassifying the attacks would mean two things: the government has more power to punish the perpetrators and prevent further attacks, and Israel would be sending a message to the international community that it will not tolerate racism against Arabs.

Whether the attacks get reclassified is yet to be seen, but the efforts for the change are strong and thus deserve merit. When advocating for Israel, stress the efforts Aharonovitch and Livni are making to end the baseless hate. This shows that although there is only a small number of price tag attackers, their actions will not be tolerated in a free and democratic society that treats everybody with respect.
