An Israeli company started marketing a t-shirt that monitors heart rate, blood pressure, cardiac irregularities, and other vital signs to try and prevent heart attacks. This t-shirt can be washed along with other clothes in a washing machine and allows patients to live their lives without having to be connected to ECG monitors.
According to Times of Israel, the shirt is made of “standard cotton or synthetic yarn, with special electrodes woven in that include extremely thin electrocardiogram sensors that read vital signs and upload them to a monitoring device via Bluetooth or a Wifi connection to a cloud-based database, where the data is processed.” The company sent an application to have the shirts upgraded to a Class II device so they could be used in professional medical settings.
Bill Gates said, “Israel is by many measures the country, relative to its population, that’s done the most to contribute to the technology revolution”. He understands what many do not. This ECG shirt epitomizes Israel’s efforts and contributions to the scientific community.
