As the new Jewish year is starting to roll on by, communities around the globe have celebrated Rosh Hashanah (New Year) and Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement). As Jews welcome in the New Year they pray for forgiveness, repentance, and peace. Sadly as the festival of Succot is quickly approaching this week, Jews in Netherlands were warned not to celebrate the week long holiday.

Jews in The Hauge, Netherlands applied to the city to build a Sukkah, a traditional Jewish Hut, which is used throughout the festival of Succot. Dutch police warned the city to deny the permit because of “fear that the sukkah would be considered a Jewish symbol, attracting violence and vandalism towards Jews in the area” due to a series of riots during the summer around the Jewish community which included “appearance of the ISIS flag and shouts of ‘kill the Jews’”.

It is important to note that The Hauge is Netherlands’ third largest city and is the home of the UN International Court of Justice, International Criminal Court, and the EU Court of Justice. It’s inconceivable how such a place of impartiality and justice can be fostering this Anti-Semitic atmosphere.
In today’s modern time, it’s strange and mind-blowing to find such strong Anti-Semitic and Anti-Israel actions in what is considered the “educated world” such as Europe and American college campuses. It is up to individuals around the world to not only step up and Change the Brand in their own communities but to speak up and shed light on tragedies occurring around the globe.
