The sister of Mousa Abu Marzuk, a senior Hamas official, was admitted into an Israeli hospital two weeks ago. She suffers from cancer and is in serious condition.
This is just one of the many times Israel has treated family members of prominent Palestinians. The daughter of Ismail Haniyeh, Gaza’s Hamas leader, received emergency treatment in a Tel Aviv hospital last month. This past summer, shortly after the three Israeli boys were kidnapped and murdered, Abbas’ wife underwent leg surgery in a private hospital in Tel Aviv. Guards were placed at the door, preventing any attempt at her life.
Israel treated Abbas’ wife despite the fact that Prime Minister Netanyahu blamed the kidnappings on the Palestinian leader. This incredible sense of morality makes Israel unique in the region. The field hospitals set up in Gaza and Syria are two more examples of how Israel uses its medical expertise to help anybody who needs medical assistance, regardless of nationality. Palestinians continue to seek treatment at Israeli hospitals because they know they will receive quality treatment. We believe Israel will continue treating even the relatives of those who will not rest until, as Haniyeh elegantly said, “Israel is wiped off the face of the map”.
